Shrink fitting using induction heating allows for uniform and fast heating, ensuring efficient and controlled assembly.

This application involves shrink-fitting a pump body to insert a ceramic cylinder for a machine used in the food manufacturing industry. We achieve this through induction heating, a method significantly faster and more efficient than conventional oven systems. Induction heating ensures rapid and uniform heat distribution across the entire piece, maintaining it consistently. This expansion of the metal enables precise insertion of ceramic cylinders.

Information about shrink fitting using induction heating tramite

Induction heating can be used to shrink fit the ceramic cylinder inside an AISI 304 steel pump body for machinery used in the food manufacturing sector.

Compared to traditional oven systems, induction heating is much faster and safer because it is not necessary to manipulate the piece when it is hot.

The flexibility of the inductor construction allows it to heat different types of pumps by induction and to reach where heating is more necessary to expand the component to insert the ceramic cylinder. A specific shaped inductor was created for the application with a 15 kW generator at 15% power. In approximately 1 minute and 52 seconds the piece was brought to a temperature of 300°C, the temperature was maintained by modulating the power to allow the insertion of the ceramic parts. The modulation is executed through a thermal imaging camera that communicates directly with the generator.

With induction heating it is also very useful for carrying out the reverse process, i.e. in heating to extract the ceramic parts for reuse or recovery of the material.
