Information about hardening of spring clips through induction heating

With induction heating, greater elasticity and strength of the spring clip are achieved, with quick and precise heating in just a few seconds.

This application involves a heat treatment process to harden a metal spring clip. The part is made from bent sheet metal, initially ductile, and through the quenching process, it gains elasticity and retains its ability to return to its original shape. The spring clip is made of AISI 420 stainless steel.

Details of heating process:

  • Generator used: High-frequency Platinum HF2
  • Power setting: 60% (about 1.2 kW)
  • Target temperature: 1100°C
  • Time required: 14 seconds

The clip was placed on a ceramic brick inside a single-turn elongated inductor for heating. The process was monitored in real-time using a temperature reader.
