Brazing of nail drill bits

INDUCTION - Tools

Brazing of nail drill bits

Effective and durable union for high-precision tools in the beauty industry.

Induction brazing is a fundamental technique for producing high-precision nail drills. The manufacturing of nail drills is a highly technological process that requires specific expertise and the use of precision machinery. These tools, made from durable and resilient materials, are essential for ensuring optimal results and longevity. Brazing effectively joins the components of the drills, ensuring quality and durability.

Information about brazing of nail drill bits

Induction brazing of carbide drills to a common shank make it possible to produce various combinations of tools for manicure polishing.

An equipment was designed to hold the common shank while the bur was placed on top for brazing. Thanks to the aligning equipment to ensure the centering of the components yielding a straight product, the runout tolerance is no more than 0.08 mm, should be obtained after soldering and final polishing.

Equipments and materials used:

  • Generator used : Platinum HF6 (50%).
  • Heating time: 4 secondi.
  • Inductor used: single closed loop
  • Use of thermal camera to control temperature: setting at 900°C
  • Auxiliary materials: brazing alloy, in the form of a small plate (3mm).

Description of the process:

In this application, a Platinum HF6 high-frequency generator rated at 6 kW is used, with the power set to 50%. A single-turn closed inductor is……

Here is an example process for a drill with a diameter of 9 mm and a carbide insert.

Process Details:

  • Generator: Platinum HF6 (50%)
  • Process Duration: 11.9 seconds
  • Inductor Used (N°1): Double turn with internal diameter 14 mm
  • Control temperature with thermal imaging camera: 750°C.
  • Thermal imaging camera: 50X50 mm window range 250°C-900°C

Auxiliary Materials:

Brazing Material: 40% silver alloy

Flux: in paste for high temperatures

Process Description:

The process begins with the careful placement of the 9mm bits and tips inside the loops of the inductor. The inductor allows uniform and controlled heating of the brazing area with power generated by the Platinum HF6 generator system with setting of 50% of power.

The temperature is brought and maintained at 750°C with a program lasting 12 seconds, optimizing the melting and penetration of the alloy by capillarity.  The thermal imaging camera, with its precise reading capability, ensures that the process remains within critical parameters.

By carefully controlling the heat, the risk of damaging the base material during the brazing process is reduced. This is especially important when working with steel tools that need to maintain their strength and hardness.
