Information about brazing fittings on flexible tubes for the automotive sector.

Induction brazing of fittings on flexible tubes: precision and reduced times thanks to power modulation and advanced thermal control.

The application involves the brazing of stainless steel flexible tubes (AISI 316L or 6 Ti) with steel fittings, using a silver-based alloy ring and BrazeTec H paste flux. A multi-turn inductor with a Ø33 mm copper capillary of Ø5 mm was used to achieve efficient heating, along with a temperature sensor (range 160-990°C) for thermal control and heating cycle programming.

Thanks to power modulation, a 25 kW generator was employed to simulate the operation of 10 kW and 15 kW generators. The client requested testing two different setups: tube below and fitting above, and vice versa.

  • a temperature reader connected directly to the generator set to control the temperature of 700°.

With a 7 second heating process, it achieves optimal alloy melting and induction brazing between banjo connectors and steel tubing.

This approach allowed the temperature to be precisely controlled throughout the entire brazing process, ensuring a robust and reliable connection between the connectors and the tubes. The use of temperature reader and the closed inductor, are the  fundamental tools to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the brazing.
