Automatic Laser Marking Line

LASER AUTOMATION - Generic

Marking ABS with Green Laser

Automatic laser marking equipped with a 3D profiler and integrated into a molding line.

The molding of plastic materials often requires integrated marking solutions in-line to avoid component manipulation. The most suitable sources for these materials are Green lasers and UV lasers due to their ability to minimize heat transfer to the material even in the presence of high contrast.

Information of laser marking machine on ABS with green laser technology

Laser marking with green or UV lasers on plastic materials is now a well-known and widely used procedure in all the products that surround us daily. Just think of common appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, or simply remote controls, keyboards, and device cases that we often hold in our hands.

Achieving accurate and flawless marking requires the use of suitable sources capable of offering high contrast without damaging the treated surfaces; here, the short pulses of the laser are a fundamental feature to achieve the desired result.

In the video, you can see an automatic line equipped with a 3D profiler capable of recognizing different product models and marking them in the correct position regardless of their placement on the conveyor belt.

This laser marking production line, which can also be semi-automatic (manual loading by the operator), acts as a bypass of the stamping line.

  • Through a chute, the products are directed to the scanning area where the 3D profiling of the piece and its recognition take place.
  • Once the piece is identified, the system automatically matches the corresponding marking file, which can vary in shape, position, and parameters, recalling it from a pre-configured database
  • The marking then takes place quickly and in a protected environment with a positioning accuracy just under a tenth of a millimeter. Higher precision is achievable upon request based on the expected scanning times and the useful recognition area

Once the product is marked, it is redirected to the main processing line where subsequent operations such as polishing, deburring, and other finishing processes occur.

The main advantages of this solution are its adaptability to existing lines through an economical retrofit that does not alter the operational flow and the ability to operate the line in both automatic and manual modes depending on the batches and sizes of the produced pieces.

  • Laser source: Green 3.5 watts
  • Spot Size: 65 µm
  • Wavelength: 532 nm
  • Scanner Resolution: 0.05 mm
  • Marking Time: 3.5 seconds
